Welcome to the Launceston Ramblers Club Inc

You can participate in up to 3 walks with the Club before paying membership fees.

Before you start walking with us, you need to do the following:

  1. Download, printout and complete the Club’s medical information and emergency contact form. Carry this form in your daypack on all walks with the Club. The Club DOES NOT want a copy of your completed form.

  2. Download the current walks and activity program. The program has details of our walks and activities and the contact phone number of walk coordinators. If you are interested in a walk or activity, contact the coordinator in the week preceding the walk and no later than the time and day shown in the walks and activity program.

  3. The list below gives you the necessary items for a bushwalk.

  • A bushwalking daypack

  • Hiking boots and socks

  • Strong durable preferably quick drying clothing (No denim)

  • Wet weather (waterproof) jacket and over-pants

  • Polar fleece or woollen jumper

  • Beanie and gloves

  • Sunhat and sunscreen

  • Gaiters

  • Whistle - some daypacks have a whistle built into the pack’s harness.

  • Personal first aid kit including an emergency space blanket.

  • Water - at least 1 litre per person every three hours of a walk. Ask the walk coordinator how much water you should bring.

  • Lunch and snacks including some fast energy food

  • A mobile phone

  • An additional small bag, not required on the walk and left in the car, containing a change of clothes and shoes, cash to pay the driver and money for afternoon tea.

We recommend you download the Walker Pack List from Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Service. This document also gives additional items for alpine walking.

A few other essential points

  1. Generally, walks leave Launceston at around 8am. The walk coordinator will give you the exact time of departure.

  2. Saturday and Sunday walks leave from the car park at the Launceston Library, 8 High St.

  3. Wednesday walks leave from the car park opposite the old Beck’s building in Dowling St.

  4. Be at the meeting place at least 15 minutes before departure time to meet other walkers and arrange carpooling.

  5. For safety on each Club walk, we provide a PLB, satellite phone and a defibrillator to be carried amongst the group. For larger groups, we also use handheld UHF radios between the walk coordinator (leading the walk) and “Tail end Charlie” to maintain contact throughout the walk.

  6. On your first walk with the Club, you can only participate in a walk of Grade 3 or lower. Our walking grade system is here.

  7. If you are interested in a walk, talk to the walk coordinator about the suitability of the walk for you.
