About the Club
Our Story
Gordon Goward, Head of Adult Education in Launceston, convened a meeting in May 1972 for the purpose of establishing a bushwalking club with an emphasis on families and children. This meeting was well attended, and the new Launceston Ramblers Club was formed. In the early days of the Club, walks were undertaken on Sundays a couple of weeks apart. The first president of the Club was Geoff Gill. Mr Goward was transferred to Hobart where he was instrumental in forming the Eastern Shore Ramblers Club.
The Club brings together people who enjoy bushwalking and other self-reliant recreation. The Club prides itself as a welcoming organisation for people of all age groups and abilities. Whether you’re new to walking or a seasoned hiker, you’ll find encouragement, support and plenty of shared laughs along the way.
What We Do
We offer a varied program of walks throughout the year, of different lengths and walking difficulty to suit members’ level of fitness and walking ability. We offer walks on most Sundays, with the occasional Saturday walk in lieu of a Sunday walk, and Wednesday walks twice per month.
More Than Just Walking
While walking is at the heart of what we do, connection is just as important. The Club is a place to build friendships, share stories and enjoy the simple pleasure of being outdoors together. Post-walk chats at a local food outlet or coffee shop and special events are all part of the experience.
Our Values
Safety First – Responsible planning and supportive group walking
Respect for Nature – Caring for tracks and natural environments
Inclusivity – Welcoming members and visitors alike
Enjoyment – Celebrating the physical and mental benefits of walking
